As a result of exemplary performance and training, the Kingston Fire Department continues to meet the requirements of an ISO Class 3 rating, one of highest insurance ratings for an all-volunteer department by the Insurance Services Office (ISO). In the United States, only 3.6% of fire departments are rated at the ISO Class 3 level. ISO gives a ranking of 1 through 10, with 1 being the best and 10 being no available fire protection services. ISO staff assembles information about municipal fire-protection efforts in communities throughout the nation. The rating imposed by the ISO directly influences the determination of homeowner insurance rates in a community.
