April 15 @0405 hrs Stations 4+9 were dispatched to Berth Ave for smoke in the basement, no fire. E7 with a crew of 3, and L2 with a crew of 6 responded on the initial alarm. E7 called on scene at 0409 and gave a size up, reporting smoke showing from the first floor, of what appeared to be a single family, single floor dwelling. E7 then requested a 2 alarm be struck bringing additional UFD apparatus to the scene, and requested North Kingstown Fire to respond as the RIT team. L2 crew located basement access with heavy smoke in the basement. E7’s crew stretched an attack line to the basement. L2’s interior crew located the fire apartment and forced entry before conducting a primary search. L2 exterior crew laddered the building and conducted vertical ventilation. UFD E12 laid a 5′ feeder from a nearby hydrant to E7. The fire was declared knocked down at 0419 hrs by command. Crews remained on scene overhauling, venting, and packing up until roughly 0600. The scene has been turned over to the State Fire Marshal.
