As reported by WPRI News:

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I (WPRI) — Two people were injured after a car has smashed into a building in South Kingstown Tuesday.

According to police, the car was traveling down Southwinds Drive and crossed Kingstown Road around 1:18 p.m. The Ford Fusion reportedly passed over two lanes of traffic, went into the driveway of Kingston Auto Sales and Service and continued into the side of the building.

“It looks like it struck the window area, so it’s a fairly weak point in the building,” said Lt. Craig Young on the scene. “We’re just trying to determine now what the possible speed was, etc.” he added.

One victim was the elderly driver and the other was a customer inside the store, police said.

The customer “was pinned by the vehicle…they were able to move some equipment and get him out through the back,” explained Lt. Young.

The driver was transported by ambulance and the man inside the store was flown by LifeStar helicopter. Both have been taken to Rhode Island Hospital.

Officials said the extent of the injuries was unknown as of late afternoon.
